The 45-year-old Brentwood man – who prosecutors are not naming in order to protect the victim’s identity – pleaded guilty to rape and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Prosecutors said the abuse happened in July 2021 while the man was alone with his 5-year-old daughter at his apartment.
The child’s mother – who was estranged from the man – asked a relative to check on the girl after speaking to him on the phone and believing he was drinking alcohol.
When the relative arrived, they witnessed the man sexually abusing the girl and called 911, prosecutors said.
A sexual assault forensic examination was done on the girl and confirmed the presence of his DNA.
“Today, the rights of this young victim have been vindicated. This defendant disgraced his role as a father when he engaged in the unconscionable abuse of his own daughter,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.
“I want to thank the Suffolk County Police Department for their investigation in this case and the prosecutors for their relentless pursuit of justice for the victim.
"Now this defendant will be held accountable for his reprehensible crimes.”
In court Wednesday, the man pleaded guilty to the following:
- Rape
- Sexual abuse
- Criminal sexual act
- Endangering the welfare of a child
He is scheduled to be sentenced in February 2024 and is expected to get 16 years in prison.
